Promotion: Super Smoothie Bio+ · Strengthens the immune system · -30% just for you. Health claim not authorised under Reg. EC 1924/2006: block. Personalised pricing 'just for you': disclosure required. Action: remove health claim, add disclosure.
Retail promotions go out consistent with consumer protection rules.
Promo Compliance Validator checks the retailer's promotions before publication: consumer protection rules (dual pricing, fake reviews, personalised pricing disclosure), health claims (Reg. EC 1924/2006), green claims (EU Directive 2024/825 on green marketing), commercial guarantees, and sector-specific rules. Pre-publication block for significant violations, flag for borderline cases.

Why it exists.
Retail and consumer goods promotions are governed by multiple and evolving rules: consumer protection law on discount clarity, dual pricing, and unfair commercial practices; Regulation EC 1924/2006 for health claims on food products; EU Directive 2024/825 on green marketing claims; sector-specific rules for OTC medicines, supplements, and cosmetics. A promotion that violates these rules exposes the company to regulatory sanctions — even when the error is unintentional.
How it works pre-publication.
Promo Compliance Validator activates pre-publication, every time a promotional material enters the approval flow. It reads the text and visual claim description, identifies the regulated claims — discount on price, quality claims, health claims, green claims — and compares them against the declarative rules configured by the retail compliance team.
Pass, flag, block.
For compliant promotions, silent pass. For anomalies, flag with suggested changes. For significant violations, block with escalation to the compliance officer. CMS integration for pre-publication interception is built during delivery.
The teams that manage promotional compliance in a systematic way.
Retail marketing team
Checks every promotion for compliance before publication, without depending on a manual legal review cycle for every piece of material. Feedback arrives in real time in the workflow, not after publication.
Retail compliance officer
Receives in escalation only the cases that genuinely require a human decision — significant violations or ambiguous situations not covered by standard rules. Manual review time focuses where it matters.
Marketing or merchandising director
Sees in aggregate the recurring non-compliance patterns in promotional material: which claim types generate the most flags, which product categories are most exposed. Team training is based on data.
A promotion with an unauthorised claim blocked before publication.
The content manager uploads. The agent analyses.
For a retailer with one hundred stores and a marketing team publishing fifty promotions per month across digital and physical formats, the approval flow involves Promo Compliance Validator on every new promotion entered into the system. A content manager uploads a promotion for a food supplement with the claim 'Strengthens the immune system' and the offer 'just for you, -30%'. The agent reads the material and starts the check.
Health claim blocked. Personalised pricing flagged.
The health claim 'Strengthens the immune system' is not on the list of authorised claims under Reg. EC 1924/2006 for this product category: block. The 'just for you' wording constitutes personalised pricing under consumer protection rules and requires explicit disclosure: flag.
Corrected version in under a minute.
The content manager receives the feedback on their work channel in under a minute. They remove the unauthorised health claim and add the personalised pricing disclosure. The corrected version passes all checks. The full event — original promotion, anomalies detected, team actions, final approved version — stays in the compliance audit registry for any regulatory verification.
Declarative rules from the customer's marketing and retail compliance team.
The rules of Promo Compliance Validator are declarative. The customer's marketing and retail compliance team defines in a readable format the product category-specific rules (which health claims are authorised, which are prohibited, which require specific conditions), the rules for dual pricing and personalised pricing under consumer protection law, and the rules for green claims under EU Directive 2024/825. Retail CMS integration for pre-publication interception is built during delivery via a dedicated adapter.

How Promo Compliance Validator works in detail.
The system processes the promotion text and the description of the visual claims accompanying the material. For images, analysis is based on the textual description provided in the promotions management system. Direct analysis of complex images (labels, packaging) may require additional configuration agreed during delivery.
The rules are declarative in the customer's repository. When a regulation is updated or the EU regulator publishes new guidance, the retailer's compliance team updates the declarative file, tests it in the development environment, and promotes it to production. Responsibility for the completeness and currency of rules against the prevailing regulatory landscape stays with the customer's compliance team.
Yes, as long as promotional materials from all channels pass through the customer's promotions management system and the integration with that system is configured. Different channels can have different compliance rules (e.g. space requirements for dual pricing in printed leaflets versus digital): channel-specific rules are configured separately.
The typical pattern is 12-16 weeks. Discovery and mapping of product categories and priority regulations two weeks, compliance rule configuration per category four weeks, retail CMS integration three weeks, testing with real materials and hand-off to the marketing team two to three weeks. Duration depends on the variety of product categories and the complexity of the customer's CMS.
